Stephen Morgan MP is inviting representatives from Portsmouth South businesses to an online session hosted in partnership with UK Partners Against Crime (UK-PAC) to discuss tackling shoplifting together.

Mr Morgan has written to businesses across Portsmouth South to invite them to attend this session, which will take place Thursday 4 June between 6pm-7pm, inviting them and share their views.

During the session, Mr Morgan will chair the discussion, a UKPAC representative will deliver an update on their work, and there will be an opportunity for businesses to ask questions and share experiences.

This session follows action already taken by Mr Morgan to support Portsmouth’s small businesses and protect them against shoplifting. Examples of these actions can be read about in further detail here and here.

Commenting Portsmouth South MP Stephen Morgan said:

“Protecting Portsmouth’s high streets and local businesses means tackling shoplifting. This can only be achieved by working together.

“My upcoming online session with UK Partners Against Crime will allow local businesses with an opportunity to share their experiences and perspectives, so that we are able to tackle shoplifting head-on as a community.

“In recent years, many of our city’s valued local business have suffered as a result of shoplifting. In some cases, we have lost valued local institutions to the financial consequences of shop theft.

“I remain committed to taking any action that will support our local businesses and keep our high streets safe. I encourage all local businesses to join this online session to share their experiences and perspectives.”

Gareth Lewis, Chairman of UKPAC, said:

“Business crime affects every part of our local economy, from independent retailers to national operators, and no business should feel isolated when dealing with these challenges. Tackling business crime effectively requires a united approach, and UKPAC (UK Partners Against Crime) is proud to be working alongside Stephen Morgan MP and partners across Portsmouth to strengthen collaboration between businesses, policing, local authorities and community organisations.

“Through intelligence sharing, crime prevention initiatives and stronger partnerships, we are already seeing positive results within Portsmouth, helping businesses feel better supported and more resilient against theft, anti-social behaviour and organised retail crime. By working together through UKPAC, businesses can access greater support, shared intelligence and practical solutions that are already making a measurable difference across the city.

“This session is an important opportunity for businesses to engage directly, understand the support available, and become part of a collective effort aligned with the national ‘Tackling Retail Crime Together’ strategy. We encourage businesses of all sizes and types to join the discussion and play their part in building stronger, safer and more resilient trading communities across Portsmouth.”
