The Labour Party created the NHS so it is no surprise that Stephen has wasted no time in seeing how local services can be improved. From patient access to helping deliver additional GPs and dentists – Stephen has fiercely fought to protect the city’s NHS Services.
A few ways that Stephen has stood up for our city’s services include:
- Lobbied government to help deliver a new medical school so Portsmouth can train its own doctors
- Secured more dental appointments for Portsmouth people
- Tirelessly lobbied government to provide the funding needed for the city to build the new urgent care centre, which is set to deliver significant benefit to communities across Portsmouth
- Helped secure a dental academy in our city to train the future NHS workforce
- Visiting staff at QA Hospital to hear about challenges faced
- Brought the Shadow Health Secretary to Portsmouth to ensure that the city’s NHS services on the radar for future Labour Government’s
- Slammed the former Prime Minister over NHS funding and resources
- Met with NHS England and British Dental Association in parliament to tackle the issue of patient access to dental services
- Written multiple times to the Health Secretary about staff shortages
Stephen said:
“The NHS is one of the nations most treasured assets, I intend to keep it that way.
“The Conservative government broke our NHS and Portsmouth people are paying the price.
“I will continue campaigning to get our local NHS back on its feet and fit for the future, so that local residents can rely on getting first class care when they need it.”
There is no room for error when it comes to our NHS. It must be properly funded, staffed and resourced. Stephen will continue to be a voice for this most cherished service and always welcomes people getting in touch to share their thoughts.
