Tackling Crime

Like many people born and raised in Portsmouth, Stephen wants his city to be a safe and welcoming place for all. That is why his efforts when it comes to tackling crime have been as relentless in parliament as they have in the constituency.
The chances are you have seen Stephen taking the following actions:

  • Out with bobbies on the beat and joining police on patrol in every ward in his patch
  • Lobbying for more police officers on Portsmouth’s streets
  • Pioneering a campaign aimed at highlighting crimes committed against the LGBT+ community
  • Working with others to prevent anti-social behaviour in Old Portsmouth
  • Campaigning to stamp out shoplifting and for additional support to local shop traders
  • Tackling violence against women and girls by voting for tougher sentences for rapists
  • Meeting Police and the Crime Commissioner regularly to relay constituent’s doorstep feedback
  • Making sure resources are targeted to where our community needs them

Stephen said:

“Whether campaigning for our officers to have the resources and numbers they need or speaking to residents on the doorstep – tackling crime is a top priority for me.

I will continue to work closely with our local police force to crack down on anti-social behaviour and crime, take back our streets and make people in Portsmouth feel safe.”
