Stephen Morgan MP launches ‘Hate Will Never Win’ campaign to mark National Hate Crime Awareness Week 2026

Stephen Morgan MP has launched “Hate Will Never Win”, a new community initiative and campaign intended to bring the entire Portsmouth community closer together and deter hate.

As part of this initiative, the city MP has encouraged solidarity with local people and communities affected by an unfortunate rise in hateful action and rhetoric across the region in recent years.

To ensure that everyone in our city remains safe and protected against all forms of hate, the Portsmouth South MP regularly meets with faith groups and community organisations as well as raising local concerns with Portsmouth’s District Commander, and liaises with anti-racism groups such as CST, Hope Not Hate and Tell Mama.

The city MP regularly brings groups together to ensure action is taken to support all communities in our city, and this latest effort is encouraging local people to show support for the ‘Hate Will Never Win’ initiative by taking the simple step of displaying a poster in a window at home, or displaying it in a workplace.

Mr Morgan’s launch of this latest initiative coincides with National Hate Crime Awareness Week 2026, a week of action to encourage authorities, key partners and communities affected by hate crime to work together to tackle hate crime across the UK through the annual H.O.P.E. Campaign:

  • Hate crime awareness – increasing awareness and understanding
  • Operational responses – improving responses
  • Prevention – putting measures in place to prevent hate crime
  • Engagement – engaging communities

National Hate Crime Awareness Week can be read about in further detail here.

Commenting, Stephen Morgan MP for Portsmouth South, said:

“There is no place for hate in our city, in any form. That is why I am calling on local people to show their solidarity with both individuals and communities affected by hate, by taking the simple step of displaying a window poster of support at home.

“Our city has a proud history of offering community and opportunity to all. I believe it is the contributions from our city’s many communities and cultures that together make Portsmouth the vibrant and rich city that it is today.

“This initiative is an opportunity for our city to come together to push back against all forms of hate by providing solidarity to those affected and demonstrating that here in Portsmouth, hate will never win.”

On hate crime, the city MP added:

“Unfortunately, recent years have seen troubling and sometimes disgraceful acts of intimidation, and violence towards specific groups in our community.

“I strongly believe that everyone has the right to be treated with dignity and respect.

“That is why I will continue to take action, working with others, to protect individuals and communities from hatred. As a government, we will not tolerate this, not now and not ever.”

To show your support for this community initiative, households and businesses have been encouraged to pick up a “Hate Will Never Win” poster to display in their windows from Stephen Morgan MP’s constituency office at 72 Albert Rd, Southsea PO5 2SL.
