Attending the conference speech made by the Leader of the Labour Party in Liverpool today, Stephen Morgan MP has credited Labour’s mission led plan for Government as promising a decade of renewal in every part of the country, including Portsmouth.

Keir Starmer pledged to end the Tory disease of sticking plaster politics with Labour’s long-term plans for economic growth, safer streets, cheaper homegrown British power, breaking down barriers to opportunities, and a rejuvenated NHS.

Setting out his vision for Britain’s future, the Labour Leader committed to use money from scrapping the non-dom status to invest in the NHS, ending dangerous waits including those for cancer diagnosis.

Keir Starmer also reasserted his plans to put VAT on private education to invest in state school services and mental health counsellors in all schools, in addition to putting more bobbies on the beat to ensure people feel safe in their communities again.

Mr Morgan said that Labour has the answers to the challenges the country is facing and will deliver a Britain that gives Portsmouth people hope for the future again.

The Labour leader also set out new policies, pledging:

  1. Building a generation of new towns in grey belt areas of the UK, with 1.5 million new homes
  2. Implementing strategic planning frameworks in key growth corridors
  3. Fast tracking Brownfield site provision to speed up building
  4. A new devolution package which will give power back to towns and communities
  5. A community policing guarantee putting power back into communities on their crime and safety priorities

Following the speech, commenting City MP Stephen Morgan said:

“People in Portsmouth and across the country are worried about what the future holds, after 13 years of Conservative broken promises and economic decline.

Labour is now a government in waiting, and that government will create a Britain secure enough to enable Portsmouth people to look to the future and know things will be better for them and their children.

As Keir Starmer set out today, Labour understands the challenges being faced and has the solutions to improve the everyday lives of ordinary working people in Portsmouth and across the country.”
