Vote for a better Portsmouth on Thursday 4 May

By 9 April 2023No Comments

I wanted to write to urge constituents to vote in the important local elections on 4 May.

I’ve been out on the doorsteps with your local Labour team speaking with hundreds of residents every week. You’ve told us that the cost of living crisis, soaring energy bills, food prices, mortgages and rents are really taking their toll.

What’s made that worse is the Tories’ disastrous mini budget. What that did to our country is absolutely unforgiveable. And what is the priority of this Government now? Ensuring young and elderly people can’t vote by bringing in voter ID.

It’s not just the Tories that are letting Portsmouth people down. Locally the Lib Dems are too busy trying to cling to power, failing to tackle the challenges our city and local families face.

They have promised time and time again to deliver a new city centre. Yet 20 years on we have nothing to show for it. They promised a greener city yet ploughed on with their destructive plans for Tipner West and oversee some of the worst recycling rates in the country.

It is little wonder residents tell us the Lib Dems are holding our city back with tired local leadership and a lack of ambition for our community.

It’s so frustrating when our city is fizzing full of potential and I’m doing all I can in Parliament to speak up for you and fight for a better Portsmouth: from supporting families through the cost of living crisis, securing more doctors and dentists, lobbying for more bobbies on the beat, standing up for our city’s schools, to taking the climate crisis seriously.

That’s why I am urging you to register for a postal vote and to use that vote for Labour.

Your local Labour candidate and the Portsmouth Labour team have a positive vision for this area and plan to build a better Portsmouth. With a bigger team on the council they will work with me to get things done.

It is easier to vote two minutes to sign up. You can do so until 18 April 2023 at https://postalvote.labour.org.uk/

Together we can build a better Portsmouth.

Stephen Morgan MP
