Shining a light on the taxi trade and celebrating the many drivers who contribute to their local communities, Stephen Morgan MP is encouraging constituents to nominate Portsmouth taxi and private hire drivers who go above and beyond in the course of their work.
Drivers of both taxis and minicabs are eligible for nomination for the national award with examples of the type of nominations about drivers who have gone ‘above and beyond’ including:
- charitable work
- a local hero who helped someone in need
- supporting customers with disabilities
- championing sustainability / EV adoption
- speaking up for the taxi and minicab trade
Nominations of female drivers are particularly welcomed, as women remain a minority in the industry. The Parliamentary Taxi and Private Hire Awards hope to encourage more women to join the trade by celebrating them and shining a light on their contribution.
The city MP has been working with others to support the taxi trade and speaking up for their concerns. He has also been raising local concerns about the availability of services especially late at night, the shortage of drivers and improving accessibility of vehicles.
