Labour’s Portsmouth South parliamentary candidate has renewed his commitment to make fair transitional state pension arrangements for 1950s women.
Cllr Stephen Morgan previously supported campaigners when the issue was discussed at a city council Scrutiny Management Panel last year.
Portsmouth Labour are in full support of this important local and national campaign and backed a motion at council this Spring.
The last Labour government had some success at reducing pensioner poverty. However women and the lowest paid remain at high risk of falling into poverty in their retirement.
This injustice is being extended to 2.6m women born in the 1950s, who have been short-changed by the bringing forward of their state pension age.

Backing Solent WASPI’s campaign, Cllr Stephen Morgan said:
“I have no hesitation in continuing my support for this hugely important campaign. Women across the country, in this city of ours and in my own family have been treated unfairly.
As Portsmouth South’s MP I would push the government to deal with this issue and ensure that women affected are given proper transitional payments.
Being from here, for here, I will be a strong voice and authentic representative for all Portsmouth women affected”.
WASPI campaigners have thanked Stephen for his support by staying “Thank you so much for caring”. It is estimated that 9,000 women in Portsmouth are affected.
