Labour’s parliamentary candidate for Portsmouth South in the general election next month has responded to highly worrying news that QA Hospital has missed out on £7.6m of ‘Sustainability and Transformation’ funding linked to local plans.
Cllr Stephen Morgan, a local NHS campaigner, said:
“I want to see the best interests of patients at the heart of our NHS.
This latest news – affecting Portsmouth’s already struggling health services – is hugely concerning. This is another example of the Tories failing our city and failing our NHS we all rely on.
Waiting lists are up, A&Es services are in crisis and it’s harder than ever to see a GP.
Labour will have a moratorium on Sustainability and Transformation Plans (STPs). These controversial plans, affecting the funding of vital services in our great city, are too often decided behind closed doors, with no genuine involvement of local people. It’s a disgrace.
Our city deserves better. Every single STP proposal should be looked at to see what’s in the interest of quality of patient care.
We must ensure our local NHS is given the money it needs to tackle the crisis, services from home to hospital are joined up and health and social care services properly integrated”.
