Stephen Morgan MP has paid a visit to St Mary’s Community Health Campus to meet the team providing mental health support to city residents ahead of Cuppa and Chat event for people to have their say on the future of local mental health services.
During the visit, Mr Morgan was shown to the Campus’ Mental Health Hub and Spinnaker Ward, where staff provided him with an overview of their crucial community services and discussed with him this Government’s commitment to improving mental health support.
St Mary’s Community Health Campus is a public healthcare facility, located on Milton Road, providing multiple modern services that support Portsmouth people of all ages across many different pathways.
This visit follows the Mental Health Bill 2025 being passed into law after receiving Royal Assent last month. This Bill will see the implementation of a number of measures targeted at ensuring the dignity and rights of those receiving mental health treatment and modernizing legislation.
Commenting, Stephen Morgan, MP for Portsmouth South said:
“This Government is committed to changing how this country approaches mental health, and in doing so I will always stand behind the efforts of organisations and individuals helping to bring mental wellbeing to the forefront of healthcare in our city.
“It was a pleasure to visit St Mary’s Community Health Campus and see their services firsthand ahead of this month’s Cuppa and Chat, where Portsmouth people have been invited to discuss the future of mental health services.
“I am reassured by the great work that the dedicated team is doing, providing crucial community support and setting an example for the practical delivery of neighbourhood health we can expect more of under this Government”.
This visit comes ahead of Stephen Morgan MP’s next Cuppa & Chat session on Saturday 31 January, where Portsmouth people are invited to learn about and discuss mental health.
