Coventry’s Education Partnership showcased to Shadow Schools Minister

By 1 December 2022No Comments

Shadow Schools Minister Stephen Morgan MP had an engaging and interactive visit to Coventry where he found out more about the city’s unique Education Partnership.

The Education Partnership sees all of Coventry’s schools working together to achieve better outcomes for pupils and to maximise the life chances for young people.

As part of the visit, Stephen met with head teachers from across the city as well as councillors and officers involved in education in Coventry, where he was able to share his views on future UK education policy.

He heard first-hand the challenges faced through funding shortages, recruitment and retention of teaching staff and the difficulties families are facing every day as a consequence of the cost-of-living crisis.

Stephen learned how the strength of the Coventry Education Partnership, together with the wider links to the One Coventry approach in the city, is ensuring opportunities for collaboration and support amongst schools.

The MP then enjoyed a tour of Sidney Stringer Primary School.  Year 6, Head Boys and Girls took delight in taking Stephen on a tour of the classrooms and were keen to tell him of their experiences of school life in Coventry.

Stephen Morgan MP, Shadow Schools Minister, said:

“I’ve been impressed by the One Coventry approach, the school’s partnership, where everyone works together to make a real difference to the children’s lives. Thank you for the work you’re doing.”

“Teachers and school staff do tremendous work in difficult circumstances to improve the life chances of children, so I’ve been impressed by the partnership working, the relationships you’ve fostered and your shared vision and outcome to improve the life chances of children”.

Cllr Dr Kindy Sandhu, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills at Coventry City Council, hosted the event and thanked Stephen for taking the time to find out more about Coventry’s Education Partnership.

Cllr Dr Kindy Sandhu said

“It has been invaluable for Stephen to join us here in Coventry to hear directly about the real hardships being faced by schools and families across our city.

Our Education Partnership approach can be seen as a national exemplar for collaboration and making the best use of our resources for children.”
