City MP invites constituents to join Summer Cycle event with Portsmouth Cycle Forum

By 18 July 2023No Comments

Stephen Morgan MP is inviting constituents to join him and Portsmouth Cycle Forum for a bike ride around the constituency on Sunday 30 July.

This will be an opportunity to discuss all things cycling related, including the environmental impact and the importance of good infrastructure.

It also provides an opportunity to learn more about the Portsmouth Cycle Forum: an award-winning, independent, volunteer-led cycle campaign group representing close to 450 members and the needs of people who already cycle or would like to cycle in our city for their everyday journeys.

Ahead of the cycle, Portsmouth MP Stephen Morgan said:

“This Summer Cycle event is a great opportunity to discuss all things cycling related and enjoy a ride around Portsmouth with other local people.

Portsmouth Cycle Forum set a fantastic example of local people raising their concerns and making their voices heard to encourage and improve opportunities for active travel.

I have long championed better designed transport infrastructure which encourages cycling and want to make Portsmouth safer and more accessible to all. I warmly encourage new and seasoned local cyclists to come along and have their say”

Mr Morgan has taken a range of actions to improve cycling accessibility in Portsmouth, including campaigning for active travel investments; tabling questions to Ministers on active travel funding; and met with active travel campaigners and cycling charities.

Booking is essential.

To book please click: here

You must be a constituent of Portsmouth South to book a ticket for this event.

Please note, the ride will take place on roads within the constituency, all participants are responsible for their own bikes, equipment (suitable for the weather forecast) and anyone else who is within their personal group. It is suggested that participants wear a helmet and bring water.

Those attending this event should be confident to ride at around 10mph for an hour. This event is not suitable for young children who do not have experience of cycling on the road. The ride will be just under 6 miles long and will not take place if the weather is poor.
