Responding to Ukrainian naval vessels arriving at HMNB Portsmouth today (Thursday 11 April) for the first time since the Ukrainian—Russian war began, constituency MP Stephen Morgan said:

“The people of Portsmouth and across Britain stand united in support of Ukraine and against Putin’s aggression.

“There may be a change in Government to Labour this year, but there will be no change in Britain’s resolve to stand with Ukraine, confront Russian aggression and pursue Putin for his war crimes.

“We will stand with Ukraine for as long as it takes to win.”

On the Royal Navy’s efforts to train Ukrainian personnel to strengthen Ukraine’s ability to operate at sea, Mr Morgan added:

“Being the heart and home to the Royal Navy I know Portsmouth people will be proud of the contribution our service personnel will be making to train up and help deliver vital capability to Ukraine.

“This will help save lives at sea and open up vital export routes, which have been severely limited since Putin launched his illegal full-scale invasion.

“I know our city and our service personnel are well-placed to support this significant endeavour, as we play our part in working alongside our allies to support the people of Ukraine.”

The city MP in recent days visited HMNB Portsmouth to discuss current efforts in the Naval Base and future opportunities to secure its future in our city, as well as being briefed on this development.
