City MP Stephen Morgan has given his support to Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) Awareness Week, a national campaign intended to raise awareness of ASB, encourage communities to stand against ASB and inform those facing ASB of the support available.

This campaign, which has been established this year by national community safety organisation Resolve, will run from Monday 29 June to July 5 across the UK and has already received support within Portsmouth from local people, local businesses and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary which is responsible for the city’s police force.

Mr Morgan’s support towards this campaign follows his longstanding commitment to addressing Portsmouth’s ASB and making our city’s streets safer.

This includes hearing experiences and suggestions from local people, collaborating with shopowners and small businesses to prevent shoplifting, meeting with senior police and accompanying neighbourhood team patrols to raise issues and occurrences, and supporting Government measures to strengthen the local policing’s ability to tackle ASB.

Examples of these measures taken by the Government to strengthen Portsmouth’s local police force include:

  • Providing an additional £20.5 Million in funding for 2025/26
  • Allocating 65 extra dedicated neighbourhood police officers
  • Establishing new powers and offences through the Crime and Policing Act

Commenting, Stephen Morgan, MP for Portsmouth South, said:

“Since coming into office, Labour has remained committed to tackling antisocial behaviour through bold and decisive action, like introducing the Crime and Policing Bill to introduce new powers for law enforcement and establish new ASB offences.

“As a result of 14 years of neglect under the Conservatives, this issue has only gotten worse, with high streets across the UK being plagued by ASB. I know that this has led many Portsmouth people to feel both fed up and unsafe within their own city. This cannot stand.

“That is why campaigns like ASB Awareness Week are crucial. The issue of ASB in our community can only be addressed by working together, which is why it is crucial that we continue to spread awareness, stand against ASB and support those who have been its victims.”
