By 6 December 2025No Comments

This Saturday, 6 December, is Small Business Saturday, a day to celebrate the small businesses that provide jobs and are the lifeblood of our community.

There are almost 6,000 across Portsmouth – from pubs to cafés, corner shops to start-ups.

This Government is acting to back our small businesses:

  • A plan to pass the toughest laws against late payments in the G7.
  • Slashing energy bills for businesses by building clean power.
  • Investment through the British Business Bank, with over £25bn of spending power.
  • Making it easier for small businesses to export their goods through trade deals with India, the U.S., and the EU.
  • Fully funding apprenticeships in SMEs for under-25s.
  • Cracking down on fraud on our high streets, so the best small businesses can thrive on a level playing field

Commenting, Stephen Morgan MP for Portsmouth South said:

“There are almost 6,000 small businesses across Portsmouth providing this city with vital jobs and vital services.

“Many of these businesses have also long served as community institutions which we have taken great pride in and made important memories through.

“In celebration of this, I have been visiting small businesses across this city to hear concerns and how this Government can support them.

“From investing billions in small businesses through the British Business Bank, to funding apprenticeships in SMEs, to cracking down on fraud on our high streets, we are backing our small businesses where the last Government let them down.

“Commitment to small business will grow the economy and generate new local jobs and I will continue working with businesses across our community to make Portsmouth more prosperous.”
