Shadow Schools Minister: A big thank you to all school governors as we mark National School Governor’s Awareness Day

By 28 February 2023No Comments

Shadow Schools Minister Stephen Morgan has marked National Schools Governor’s Awareness Day by encouraging more people to support their local schools.

National School Governor’s Awareness Day (Tuesday 28 February) is an opportunity to join in the celebrations and express our nation’s gratitude to all the governors who dedicate their time to supporting our local schools.

Governance plays a crucial role in education, holding school leadership to account and ensuring budgets are well-spent.

A skilled and diverse governing board can help their school make inspired strategic decisions that improve educational outcomes for young people.

Although today’s school boards do amazing work, the education sector always needs more skilled and committed individuals to volunteer their time to help the community.

A former governor himself, Shadow Schools Minister Stephen Morgan MP, said:

“I pay tribute to the important work governors do in driving up standards in all of our nation’s schools, in delivering opportunities for our children and in supporting headteachers and school staff.

I know first-hand that Governors bring such unique insight and expertise, as well as a crucial understanding of the communities they serve.

These are the insights that make the role of Governors unique, and are the reasons why they should play a central role in decisions about the schools they serve. It makes all the difference in delivering a great education for our children.

As Shadow Schools Minister I can promise, that we will work with governors, listen and engage to make our shared vision for education a reality for every child. But for now, on this National School Governors Awareness Day, I want to say a big thank you for all governors for what you do to support children in our country”.
