Portsmouth South MP Stephen Morgan and Portsmouth leading women in hospitality & events recently met to discuss how they can work together to drive progress for local women in business.

Working alongside Sam McGrath from Heard About Sam, Mr Morgan brought together leading women from local organisations including Portsmouth Football Club, The Briny , Gunwharf Quays and The Queens Hotel.

The group discussed important topics such as Career Aspirations and Opportunities, Pricing and Bills and driving footfall in Portsmouth, as well as solutions to some of the barriers which stall career progression and the growth of women-led businesses.

Mr Morgan has long advocated for a number of measures to support women in work including ensuring workers have the flexibility they need.

Earlier this year Labour launched a push to increase the number of women-led businesses following a “wasted decade” for the business sector.

Commenting, Portsmouth South MP Stephen Morgan said:

“Portsmouth has so many brilliant leading women working in our events and hospitality sectors, but too often there are barriers which halt their career progression and the growth of their businesses.

“It was great to join this group to discuss what we can do together to support more Portsmouth women to succeed and grow their businesses in our city.

“With the new government taking a number of steps to transform women’s working lives including making work more flexible, the environment is right for more women to succeed in work and more women-led businesses to thrive.”

Labour’s New Deal for Working People would introduce a raft of reforms to improve women’s working lives.
