Stephen Morgan MP has encouraged Portsmouth people to honour and remember the sacrifice of our UK Armed Forces on Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday.

On 10 and 11 November, communities nationwide will mark Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day, paying tribute to those who fought and died in the First World War and all conflicts since.

Today, our UK and Commonwealth servicemen and servicewomen continue to play a vital role in protecting British interests and values, training Ukrainian forces and upholding security and stability worldwide.

The Royal British Legion (RBL) is working with and in local communities to raise much-needed funds to support our Armed Forces communities.

Mr Morgan will be contributing to the House of Commons Speaker’s Constituency Garden of Remembrance and attending various Armistice Day and Remembrance events across the constituency over the weekend.

Ahead of Remembrance 2024, commenting Portsmouth South MP Stephen Morgan said:

“Remembrance is the moment we come together as a city and nation to honour those who have served and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to defend our freedoms, and protect our way of life.

“In Portsmouth we are rightly so proud of our Armed Forces personnel, veterans, and the families who support them, for the contribution they make to our country. Theirs is the ultimate public service.

“I encourage all Portsmouth residents to pay tribute to those we have lost in conflict throughout the years. Now and always, we will remember them.”

The Labour Government is committed to strengthening support for our veterans and our Armed Forces Community – it will renew the nation’s contract with those who serve and have served, and their families.

The Government will put the Armed Forces Covenant fully into law, to strengthen support for and ensure everyone who serves or has served in the Armed Forces, and their families, are treated with fairness and respect.
