Tonight Portsmouth Football Club’s Pompey in the Community won a national award as Checkatrade Community Club of the Year for the south east at an awards ceremony in the House of Commons, Westminster.
The award, from the EFL Trust, was presented by TV presenter Colin Murray. The award was received by the Club by Clare Martin, Chief Executive of Pompey in the Community and Ben Close, Pompey midfielder, in the presence of Mark Catlin, the Club’s chief executive, and Stephen Morgan MP.
Stephen Morgan, Member of Parliament for Portsmouth South said:
“Pompey in the Community aims to work with the entire community regardless of age, gender, religion or ability. 37,000 people directly benefit from 51 projects that the organisation runs every year.
I know only too only too well what brilliant work they do as someone who used to work with Clare and the team. For example, whether in a wheelchair or just lacking a little confidence, the ‘Wheels for All’ project has a bike and an offer for everyone. It’s one of many projects the team runs to improve lives in our great city.
My huge congratulations to Clare and the team on this very well-deserved award. It was a pleasure to join them to collect it in the House of Commons and recognise their hard work with a tour round Parliament afterwards”.
