Portsmouth MPs invite residents to their joint Housing Fayre

Portsmouth MPs Stephen Morgan and Amanda Martin are joining forces to host an event focused on housing issues affecting our community.

Stephen and Amanda are bringing together a range of housing associations, organisations and charities as well as the housing ombudsman and their teams to offer support, guidance and advice in all things housing.

The fayre will take place on Saturday 31st May between 12:30pm and 3:30pm in Buckland United Reformed Church.

The fayre will provide Portsmouth people with the opportunity to ask questions, voice any concerns they have and get expert advice.

Portsmouth has experienced a housing crisis in recent years with housebuilding targets not met leading to an increase in HMOs in the city.

Commenting Portsmouth South MP Stephen Morgan said:

As one of the most densely populated cities in the UK, Portsmouth has borne the brunt of the housing crisis in England that has seen a marked reduction in the availability and affordability of decent housing for those in need.

“Having a roof over your head and safe place to call home is something everyone deserves.

“This Housing Fayre will provide an opportunity for constituents to have their views heard and receive helpful advice if they are struggling with accessing affordable and decent housing in our city. I look forward to seeing people there”

Portsmouth North MP Amanda Martin said:

“Since my election in July my post bag has been filled with constituents getting in touch about housing issues. From mouldy walls and blown windows to the lack of affordable family homes and rise of HMO’s.

“That’s why I’m pleased to be bringing together housing providers, charities and others with skin in the game to get expert advice. I urge residents not to miss this opportunity.”

Amanda and Stephen will be joined by the Housing Ombudsman, Vivid, Citizens Advice, the Portsmouth Landlord Association and others.

Both Portsmouth MPs will take the views raised at the event back to Westminster while continuing to support local initiatives that address housing issues in Portsmouth.

The Labour Government will deliver the biggest increase in social and affordable housebuilding in a generation.

It’s already taking action for private renters in our city with the Government’s Renters’ Rights Bill which supports renters through a range of measures including a ban on Section 21 ‘no-fault’ evictions.
