Portsmouth MP to Take Action Over Cost of Living Crisis with Event on Energy

By 21 February 2023No Comments

Stephen Morgan MP is inviting constituents to his next ‘Cuppa and Chat’ event this Saturday (25 February from 10.30am-12pm) to provide practical support to help Portsmouth people cut their energy bills and reduce consumption.

The coffee morning, which will take place at Landport Community Centre on Charles Street, will have experts on hand to provide information and advice in an informal setting. Attendees will also find out about the support that is available both nationally and locally for those struggling with their energy bills.

The panel will share their knowledge and expertise on topics such as smart meters and other energy-efficient technology, how energy suppliers set direct debits and further strategies for reducing energy consumption at home.

Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions to the panel, share their experiences, ideas and concerns, and share views for the city MP to take back to Westminster.

Speaking about the upcoming event, Stephen Morgan MP, said:

“With energy costs up, fuel costs up and food bills up, helping Portsmouth people through tough times is one of my top priorities.

“I hope this latest coffee morning will provide an opportunity for constituents to have their views heard and receive helpful advice if they are struggling with their bills”.

Labour’s comprehensive Green Prosperity Plan places Great British Energy, a publicly-owned clean energy company at the heart of its plan. By investing in wind, solar and other clean energy sources, Labour will reduce Britain’s dependence on fossil fuels, cut carbon emissions and energy bills, while tackling climate change.

To fund this initiative, Labour would impose a proper windfall tax on oil and gas companies, ensuring that they are not profiting from the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Not only is this bold move estimated to save households across the country £93 billion, it will also generate the resources needed to re-invest in clean energy, creating thousands of green jobs across the country, including Portsmouth.

Constituents can sign up to attend the coffee morning here.

The MP has vowed to take the concerns raised at the event to Westminster while continuing to support local initiatives that address the energy crisis in Portsmouth.
