City MP Stephen Morgan has joined the police on their patrols of Old Portsmouth to witness for himself the anti-social behaviour at Hotwalls and the Camber Dock.
Mr Morgan joined Sergeant Dean Juster on his regular beat in Old Portsmouth where he was shown some of the challenges faced by the community.
In recent weeks the hot weather has attracted large numbers of young people to congregate in the area, resulting in anti- social and threatening behaviour.
Stephen Morgan MP said:
“It was useful to join Sergeant Juster on his patrols of Old Portsmouth so that I could see for myself some of the challenges residents and businesses are facing with anti-social behaviour at Hotwalls and the Camber Dock.
From witnessing some of this behaviour and speaking to residents about their concerns it’s clear that a multi-agency response is required to tackle it successfully.
We all know that despite warnings and the risk to lives, young people have been jumping into the sea from the Hotwalls for years.
I will be liaising with the city council to see what diversionary activities and facilities can be put in place to address this and I will continue to campaign for better resourcing for policing in Portsmouth.”
Crime has increased in Portsmouth by 10%. However, since 2010, Hampshire Constabulary has lost almost 1,000 officers. Stephen has also written to local residents to seek their views and concerns.
