Portsmouth MP Stephen Morgan has urged constituents to submit their views on sewage and pollution to a landmark government consultation.
Since the election, the Government has already passed a new law to end the disgraceful behaviour of water companies and their bosses.
It will also introduce independent monitoring of every sewage outlet, with water companies required to publish real-time data for all emergency overflows. Discharges will have to be reported within an hour of the initial spill.
This is a major step forward in our wider reform to fix the broken water system.
Now, through the largest review of the water sector in a generation the governmnet will explore the further changes needed to clean up our waterways and rebuild our broken water infrastructure.
The public, environment groups, and all interested parties in Portsmouth are invited to share their views until midnight on 23 April here.
Commenting, Portsmouth South MP Stephen Morgan said:
“After years of neglect and poor planning, our country’s water infrastructure is in a shocking state. That’s why I’ve relentlessly campaigned to stop the sewage, meeting with experts, speaking up in Westminster and voting for change.
“The Labour Government has already passed landmark legislation to tackle this scandal and this review is the next major step towards cleaning up our water sector.
“I know how much Portsmouth people care about this issue. That’s why I want to make sure your voices are heard in the current review to fix the broken water system and clean up our seas.”
Last month Mr Morgan welcomed Environment Secretary Steve Reed to Portsmouth as the Labour Government’s landmark bill to crack down on bosses polluting waterways in Portsmouth became law.
