New year's message

By 1 January 2017No Comments

2016 was nationally and internationally turbulent, with twelve months of significant change.
Locally though, with central government cuts to council funding, we’ve been standing up for local people by campaigning on issues affecting our communities and by being a strong voice in decision-making in this great city of ours.
In 2017, we will keep a close eye on your council to ensure it delivers its pledges, gets the basics right, cares for the most vulnerable and builds an economy that works for the many not the few.
Labour was founded to stand up for people. At a time when our city faces unprecedented challenges, our politics is about energy, ideas, aspiration and hope.
This year we will work hard to:

  • make our communities stronger and our society fairer
  • protect and secure the services we all rely on
  • find new ways of funding the public services communities expect
  • ensure jobs, homes and schools remain at the heart of what we do.

We’re looking forward to the year ahead with a practical, competent and positive approach, optimistic for the future of our city and working hard for a better Portsmouth.
I wish everyone a healthy and happy new year.

Cllr Stephen Morgan, Portsmouth Labour Leader
