
Stephen Morgan MP has visited The Grove Veterinary Practice in Southsea to discuss changes to the veterinary sector to benefit vets and pet owners.
During the visit, Mr Morgan was able to hear views on the proposals outlined by the Government from both those who provide and those who use veterinary services.
Labour’s reform is intended to make the system clearer, fairer and more transparent for owners, whilst also supporting veterinary professionals.
Portsmouth’s pet owners are set to benefit from:
- Clearer pricing
- Lower costs
- Greater confidence in care
- Fairer complaints process
- Better access to care
Portsmouth’s veterinary professionals are set to benefit from:
- Legal recognition for veterinary nurses
- Regulatory oversight of veterinary businesses
- Modernised processes for registration and “fitness to practice”
- A modern governance model for the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS)
The visit also allowed Mr Morgan to observe the crucial work that is done every day by veterinary surgeons and staff, firsthand. As a pet owner himself, Mr Morgan appreciates and pays tribute to their efforts, along with their dedication.

“The reforms announced by Government will equip pet owners with knowledge and confidence to promptly deal with health and welfare concerns their pets may have.
“All forms of animals will be protected by planned reforms, ending cruel practices and ensuring high standards of care for pets, farm animals and wildlife”.
