It’s hammer time as MP begins demolition of old site ahead of modernisation of health campus
Stephen Morgan MP today joined hospital and trust staff to officially ‘break the ground’ on the long anticipated £10.3m refurbishment of St. Mary’s Community Health Campus, Portsmouth at 10am on Thursday 13 September.
Demolition started on the first floor of Block ‘B’ at St. Mary’s Campus. Originally the Children’s Ward, this will become a dedicated area for consultation rooms and therapy suites for adult care, including physiotherapy, podiatry and older persons mental health care (Dementia).
Works commence on site at St. Mary’s Community Health Campus and see the complete refurbishment of Block B, for outpatient services and Block C, for a specialist Research and Learning centre. The site combined with the inpatient services in Block A, Dermatology Unit and the Treatment Centre will produce the largest community health hub in the region.

We need to see more of this type of modernisation across the NHS, proper investment for vital local services is central to my mission as MP.
Future-proofing innovation like we’re seeing at St Marys is incredibly important to securing the sustainability of health services in Portsmouth, especially as they and their staff come under increasing strain through shrinking budgets and growing populations.”
Talking about the major refurbishment project at St. Mary’s, Trust Executive, Sue Harriman said:
