Responding to Liz Truss’ election as Conservative Party Leader and the country’s next Prime Minister, the Member of Parliament for Portsmouth South, Stephen Morgan, said:
“Liz Truss offers only more of the same. Rather than propose plans to tackle the cost-of-living crisis affecting so many in our city, or grow the country’s economy, all we have heard is fantasy economics that will do little for working people.
“Truss served in a Cabinet that failed to address the real issues facing Portsmouth and the country, whether that’s reducing waiting times for NHS services, investing in our city centre, tackling the climate crisis or bringing down crime and anti-social behaviour.
“Truss’ record speaks for itself, but one thing is clear: the more time we give the Tories, the more damage they will do. Only Labour can provide the fresh start the country needs.”
