Improvements to Commercial Road welcomed

By 1 October 2016No Comments

Plans have been announced for much-needed and overdue improvements to Commercial Road – the city centre’s shopping area.
A £300,000 facelift is being organised to improve the area’s appearance, and to declutter the shopping high street.
Included in the plans are the removal of the five senses sculptures, some of the seats and wooden tree planters.
It is hoped these changes will make it easier for shoppers to move around the pedestrian area.
New stone paving will be introduced at both ends of the precinct, and new trees planted.
Councillor Stephen Morgan, said:
“These long overdue changes to a tired Commercial Road are very much needed.

But they should be the start of a much bigger investment programme for the future in the heart of our city, which should benefit every local person.

We need a wider strategy to ensure investment in new jobs, transport infrastructure and improvements to our retail and leisure offer”
The improvement scheme starts later this month.
