Labour Doorstep team out and about in the ward

The Portsmouth Labour Party were out in force on Sunday 3 January 2016 with a team of enthusiastic party members and volunteers talking to residents in Landport and the city centre in Portsmouth’s Charles Dickens ward.
The door knocking team spoke to voters in Landport about local issues whilst another team were out and about talking to shoppers in a busy Commercial Road about the local clinical commissioning group’s proposed closure of the much-loved Guildhall Walk health care centre.
Lots of people raised concerns about the potential closure of the walk-in centre, stopping in the wet weather to sign Labour’s well-received petition also available at www.stephenjmorgan.org
Stephen Morgan, Labour’s candidate for the city centre ward of Charles Dickens this May said:
“We’ve had a really positive response on the doorstep again today. Residents are pleased Labour are on their side at a time of cuts in public services and working hard to improve the quality of life for communities across this great city. Flytipping, parking and the contentious bus lane at the end of the motorway were all hot topics raised by residents I spoke to. I’ve already followed up with Tescos and the city council about the flytipping and will be picking up the other issues raised to ensure action for residents”.
The local party is encouraging residents to sign the Guildhall Walk-In petition also available online. The CCG’s public consultation on the centre is due to end in February.
The campaigning afternoon was helpfully instigated by Sue Castillion, the recently elected chair of the Portsmouth Labour Party.
