Andrew Gwynne MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, has today opened city MP Stephen Morgan’s new office in the heart of Portsmouth South.
The office, situated at 72 Albert Road, Southsea, is where Stephen will be based when working in the constituency, supported by his dedicated team of staff and volunteers.
It will also serve as a local hub providing information on public services, a venue for community forums and networking events, and a gallery space for Portsmouth artists.
Before the office officially opened, Stephen had already held events supporting small businesses, providing information on pension changes and hosting a reception for the city’s veterans. The office has been available for local people to come for help since November.
There are now ambitious plans to arrange regular community activities to bring residents, voluntary organisations and businesses together, as well as regular advice centres with the city MP and his team.

“It’s an absolute pleasure to be in the great city of Portsmouth and open the office of the first ever Labour MP for Portsmouth South.
“It is clear to me that Stephen has a passion for a city that he’s always called his home and is already serving the city so well in Westminster.
“This new office, in the heart of the Portsmouth, provides a space for him to take forward his ambitions for the city with the communities he serves.”
Stephen Morgan MP added:
“It’s been a busy few months as a newly elected Member of Parliament, getting out and about in Portsmouth and being a strong national voice for our city in the House of Commons.
“Local people told me they wanted their new MP to be as accessible as possible. I didn’t want to rent a space in a business park, that no one knew how to get to, but instead be slap bang in the heart of the area I serve, on the high street and accessible to all.
“If we are going to succeed in making Portsmouth a better place to live for all, then we need to work together. I’m therefore delighted that not only will the office provide unprecedented access to me and my small team, but a hub for local community action.”
The official opening took place on 1 February and was attended by around 30 guests, with entertainment provided by St. Swithun’s Primary School in Southsea.
