City MP praises Portsmouth’s small businesses

By 1 December 2018September 8th, 2022No Comments
Portsmouth South MP Stephen Morgan has said on Small Business Saturday (1 December 2018) that the responsibility to support small business should extend beyond one day a year’.
Mr Morgan said:

Big businesses hog the limelight. Whether it’s the front page of the national newspapers or the 6 o’clock news – big business equals big news.

Yet it is small businesses that make up 99 percent of the 5.2m businesses in the UK yet they rarely receive the public’s attention or praise.

Today is Small Business Saturday a grassroots initiative to promote the UK’s small business community and to shine a spotlight on their contribution to our nation’s economy.

Not only do they deliver jobs, growth and prosperity for millions of people across our country, they’re the backbone of our communities”.

The city MP has been standing up for Portsmouth businesses regularly meeting reps, visiting local traders and hosting events for business leaders.

Speaking about his ‘Support Local’ initiative he said:

The responsibility to support small business should extend beyond one day a year.

And that’s why earlier this year I launched my support local campaign, to shine a spotlight on our fantastic small businesses in Portsmouth to help promote local traders and shops and boost their confidence as they grow, invest and employ people in our great city.

As the very fabric of our communities, Portsmouth’s small businesses offer a huge amount to our city.

So let’s stand with them not just today, but all year round”.
