Stephen Morgan MP is inviting constituents to nominate their favourite small businesses in Portsmouth for Small Business Saturday’s ‘Support Local’ awards this year taking place on 2 December.

Small Business Saturday UK is a grassroots, non-commercial campaign, which highlights small business success and encourages consumers to ‘shop local’ and support small businesses in their communities.

The day itself takes place on the first Saturday in December each year, but the campaign aims to have a lasting impact on small businesses.

Mr Morgan is seeking nominations in the constituency in three different categories:

  • Greenest Small Business
  • Friendliest Small Business
  • Best Family Business

The deadline for nominations is 26 November.

On Small Business Saturday, customers across the U.K. go out and support all types of small businesses, online, in offices and in stores. Many small businesses take part in the day by hosting events and offering discounts.

Last year the City MP announced that Just Glass UK – a household glass collection service based in Southsea – has won the award for greenest local business, while sports recovery clinic The Recovery Room was chosen as the area’s friendliest business. Haberdashery Seeded in Clarendon Road won the award for best overall business.

The initiative saw hundreds of constituents nominating local shops and traders across Southsea, Milton, Fratton and Eastney.

The longtime supporter of Portsmouth’s small businesses Stephen Morgan MP said:

“Shops, pubs and restaurants, hotels and hairdressers, beauty salons and suppliers, breweries and bakeries, and many more small businesses of all kinds are the beating heart of our city.

“Small Business Saturday is a much-welcomed opportunity to celebrate Portsmouth’s local businesses and their contributions to our local economy.

“I look forward to receiving nominations from our community and encourage everyone to show support to local traders and shops as we approach this year’s Small Business Saturday and beyond.”

Nominations for Stephen’s Support Local awards this year can be made here. The deadline for nominations is November 26. All nominations will then be considered and winners from each category will be selected and awarded a certificate for Small Business Saturday.
