City MP hosts Solent Mind drop-in event promoting Positive Minds service

Stephen Morgan MP last week invited constituents to come and meet some of Solent Mind’s friendly staff to learn more about how the charity can help with managing mental health and wellbeing, including their unique Positive Minds Service.

Solent Mind is part of a network of over 100 Local Minds who tailor mental health services to their local communities, collaborating with the national charity Mind to ensure their pioneering campaigns, information and research makes a difference in Portsmouth and Hampshire more broadly.

Mr Morgan said the service provides a vital lifeline for constituents in Portsmouth, where the demand for NHS mental health services is far outstripping capacity due to ongoing challenges with funding and resourcing.

Portsmouth uniquely benefits from the Positive Minds service, offering 1:1 support and wellbeing groups for adults at the Positive Minds centre in Portsmouth who are finding life difficult.

Positive Minds is a free service that offers peer support and useful workshops, helping local people to identify their needs and move towards better wellbeing.

Commenting following the event, Portsmouth South MP Stephen Morgan said:

”Solent Mind do a commendable job supporting local people which is why I wanted to organise an event to promote their invaluable service.

“Not being able to access the right care and support when it is needed increases the risk of individuals’ mental health deteriorating, often leading people to crisis point.

“It is clear much more needs to be done to treat mental health with the same urgency as physical health and that’s why I am committed to continuing to take action in Parliament to ensure the concerns of local mental health workers and service users are heard”.
