Stephen Morgan MP recently visited the Fratton Community Centre to attend The Bikeability Trust’s cycling training session alongside other Portsmouth residents in support of this Government’s active travel commitment.

Support for active travel has been an important part of the delivering the Department for Transport’s top priorities for environment and health.

This Government intends to improve health and wellbeing through the encouragement and accessibility of physical activity and bring us closer to delivering on Net Zero by helping to shift England’s preferred methods of travel.

In 2025, the Government announced the provision of £300m in funding to support walking, wheeling and cycling active travel schemes across Britain.

The cycling training session attended by Stephen Morgan MP was itself part of an active travel scheme organised by The Bikeability Trust’s efforts to ensure that everyone has the confidence to cycle and enjoy this skill for life.

2025 was The Bikeability Trust’s biggest year yet, with almost 450,000 pupils pledging to cycle to school through the Cycle to School 2025 campaign and thousands more taking part in Bikeability sessions across England.

Commenting,  Stephen Morgan MP for Portsmouth South said:

“It was a pleasure to be able to participate in The Bikeability Trust’s training session alongside fellow residents of Portsmouth.

“For the sake of collective health and wellbeing, along with achieving this Government’s Net Zero goals, active travel alternatives must remain accessible to all.

“The Bikeability Trust is providing an important service that supports the continued accessibility of cycling to the wider public.

“I am pleased that these training sessions have been made accessible to my constituents here in Portsmouth, giving them the opportunity to be able to participate in cycling across one of Britain’s most beautiful coastal areas.”
