Stephen Morgan, MP for Portsmouth South, is inviting local parents and carers to attend an engagement event on childrens’ social media usage due to take place later this month as part of the Government’s “Growing Up in the Online World” national consultation.

This event is providing an opportunity for local parents and carers to learn more about the Government’s proposals on social media use for children, hear evidence from a University of Portsmouth academic, and share their views with Stephen Morgan MP.

Feedback from the discussion will help ensure parents’ voices from Portsmouth South are reflected as part of the national consultation, which is due to conclude 26 May 2026.

The event will take place Friday 15th May in Old Portsmouth between 6pm – 7pm, with the specific location being sent via email prior to the event once attendee booking has been confirmed.

Mr Morgan is also encouraging local parents and carers to contribute towards the Government’s consultation through his own digital survey, which can be found here.

Commenting, Stephen Morgan, MP for Portsmouth South, said:

“Technology can enrich children’s lives, and the digital world can be used to learn, explore and create. However, children must be kept safe online and parents must feel it is safe for their children to embrace the virtual world.

“That is why this Government launched a national consultation on further measures to prepare children for the future in an age of rapid technological change.

“As part of this consultation, I am inviting local parents and carers to share their views on childrens’ social media usage to ensure their perspectives and experiences on this issue are heard as only by listening to all voices can we get this right”.
