The Prime Minister and Housing Secretary have recently confirmed that funding towards the Government’s flagship pledge to end rough sleeping for good has been doubled.
This means that a further £432 million has been allocated to ensuring people sleeping rough have a route off the streets beyond this winter.
The announcement was confirmed during the first ever Rough Sleeping Summit, which was hosted at Downing Street by the Prime Minister. This event brought together businesses, charities and local leaders to unite behind the mission to end rough sleeping.
This funding increase marks the next stage of the commitment the Prime Minister made on his first day in Downing Street to stop accepting rough sleeping as a fact of life and unite the country behind a mission to end it.
It builds on the previous £442 Million invested to offer everyone who needs it a route off the streets by Christmas, which is already delivering on the ground with specialist outreach and accommodation.
Additional funding is set to extend that support beyond March 2027, through to the end of this Parliament, taking total investment since the Prime Minister’s pledge to £874 Million.
Those who attended the summit are helping to turn Labour’s ambition into lasting action by pledging homes and practical support, including:
- Local government leaders and local mayors
- Comic Relief
- Ikea
- L’Oréal Group
- Morrisons Foundation
- Virgin Media O2
- The National Housing Federation
Together, the new funding and pledges will help people find a home, a job, and a more secure future.
I am proud to be part of a Government that is steadfast in its commitment to removing the moral stain of homelessness from our society and will continue to give my full support to achieving this.
