Stephen Morgan MP has written to primary schools across Portsmouth to raise local awareness of The Gogglehedz, a water safety initiative.
The Gogglehedz initiative, which was co-developed by local-born Olympic swimmer Katy Sexton MBE and Oliver Stubbs, is intended to educate young children and their parents about the dangers of being around water to build confidence and awareness.
The initiative supports the National Curriculum and helps schools deliver essential, life-saving education in an engaging way.
Mr Morgan’s support follows a recent meeting with Katy Sexton MBE, where he was able to discuss their crucial work and the importance of water safety initiatives for coastal cities like Portsmouth.
Additionally, the city MP has previously collaborated with Katy Sexton MBE to encourage greater water safety during Drowning Prevention Week 2025. This can be read about in further detail here.
Recent hot weather has led to a number of tragic incidents across the country, highlighting the need for young people to understand how to stay safe in and around water.

“As an island city, Portsmouth families know how important it is that everyone, especially children, are aware of the dangers of being around water.
“That is why I am raising awareness via local schools about The Gogglehedz imitative, which will be able to prepare local children with water safety skills.
“I want to thank Katy for the great work she has done on this important initiative and I look forward to continuing to work together to ensure children are well equipped to enjoy swimming and know how to keep safe in and around water.”
