Stephen Morgan MP has become an honorary patron of the Coastal Forces Heritage Trust, in bid to secure landmark national monument in Portsmouth
Since 1992, the Coastal Forces Heritage Trust has been dedicated to preserve and celebrate the legacy of the Royal Navy’s Coastal Forces, including the people, boats, technology and stories that have shaped Coastal Forces for over a century.
The trust’s most notable achievement to date is the acclaimed permanent exhibition at the National Museum of the Royal Navy ‘Night Hunters: The Royal Navy’s Coastal Forces at War’ for which they raised funds of over £1 million.
Currently, the trust is collaborating with the Portsmouth Historic Quarter and the renowned sculptor Amy Goodman to erect a landmark national monument in Portsmouth, celebrating the remarkable achievements and lasting legacy of the men and women of Royal Navy’s Coastal Forces, the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve and Allied Forces.
Mr Morgan has joined the trust’s efforts as a patron to help achieve this, advocating for the monuments erection and encouraging fundraising.
Commenting, Stephen Morgan, MP for Portsmouth South, said:
“Since 1992, the Coastal Forces Heritage Trust has been ensuring that the history of our Coastal Forces is preserved and the stories of its personnel heard.
“As the heart and home of the Royal Navy, Portsmouth had a strong relationship with and pride in the UK’s service personnel. I pay tribute to the trust for its crucial work.
“I am giving my full support as a new patron to their fundraising efforts for a new landmark monument that celebrates and commemorates the over a century’s long history of Britain’s coastal forces”.
