Caring For Our NHS

The Labour Party created the NHS so it is no surprise that Stephen has wasted no time in seeing how local services can be improved. From patient access to probing Government over the implications of a no-deal – Stephen has fiercely fought to protect the city’s NHS Services.

A few ways that Stephen has stood up for our city’s services include:

  • Visiting staff at QA Hospital to hear about challenges faced
  • Brought the Shadow Health Secretary to Portsmouth to ensure that the city’s NHS services on the radar for future Labour Government’s
  • Slammed the Prime Minister over NHS funding and resources
  • Met with NHS England and British Dental Association in parliament to tackle the issue of patient access to dental services
  • Written multiple times to the Health Secretary about staff shortages
  • Asked Government about medicine shortages under a no-deal
  • Hosted a reception at his constituency office in celebration of the NHS turning 70
  • Has been out with ambulance crews in our city

Stephen said:

“The NHS is one of the nations most treasured assets, I intend to keep it that way. Much like promises for policing, current pledges for NHS funding seem to be more about a show than producing results.

In the last two years Ministers have announced 145 separate schemes promising upgrades, new beds and equipment totalling £2.5 billion but thanks to sadly only £100 million has been delivered meaning that hospitals like QA are being let down. I’ll keep fighting in Parliament for proper funding for our NHS in Portsmouth”.

There is no room for error when it comes to our NHS. It must be properly funded, staffed and resourced. Stephen will continue to be a voice for this most cherished service and always welcomes people getting in touch to share their thoughts.
