Stephen Morgan MP has praised the ‘fantastic’ level of diversity in Portsmouth Labour’s candidates standing in Thursday’s elections.
The local Labour team for the 2021 elections include a clear 50:50 male and female split, the first openly trans woman candidate, a number of candidates from ethnically diverse and LGBT+ communities and candidates from all walks of life and experiences.
Labour will be fielding a total of 14 candidates for Portsmouth City Council, with the Labour Group who currently hold six seats headed up by Cllr George Fielding.
The May 6 elections will be the first elections following the 2019 general election, where Liberal Democrats suffered their worst result since 1918, finishing with just 11% share of the vote.
