Access to dental services is vitally important and to use the British Dental Association’s words, are in crisis.

21 million people have not seen a dentist for over 2 years, around just 50% of dental practices are able to admit new NHS patients and in Portsmouth, the number of children being admitted to hospital for tooth decay has doubled.

Stephen has been taking a string of actions locally here in Portsmouth and up in Parliament. He is keen to hear from as many constituents as possible about their views and ideas on dentistry to continue lobbying for change.

The government has set NHS activity targets for practices to meet 45% of pre-pandemic activity targets between January – March this year. There are concerns that this will force practices to priorities routine check-ups over the backlog of care created by the pandemic. Stephen is bringing politics back to the high street with his constituency office. Any constituent can pop by to his office and see him or his team with their ideas, issues or concerns. The office is open for enquiries Monday to Thursday 10am to 11.30am and 2pm to 3.45pm. A regular advice centre, appointments and home visits are also available.
